A Comprehensive Approach to Membership Development

Cornerstones, The Membership Development Program of Acacia Fraternity, provides a framework for undergraduate members to have the best possible fraternity and college experience and prepares them for life after college. Members participate in by completing a individual development plan, wherein they clarify their own values and set goals congruent with those values. Members also complete numerous activities within the core areas of Intellectual Growth, Social Awareness, and Physical Well-being. Alumni mentors, called Level Advisors, share valuable feedback and provide accountability at every step of the way. Interaction between active members and Level Advisors takes place via phone call, email, Facebook, IM, or online through the Cornerstones portal at www.gatesofsamos.org - whatever is most convenient for the member and the mentor. Cornerstones is kind of a "choose your own adventure" program that includes options like:

• Improve your study skills
• Organize a community service project
• Work with alumni to enhance your resume
• Play an intramural sport
• Attend a leadership conference
• Study the Acacia Ritual

The Personal Development Plan template is the first step in Cornerstones for all of our pledges and actives. Through this workbook, our members will complete the following exercises: Values Clarification, Write a Mission/Purpose Statement, Identify Personal Strengths, Set Goals, and Create an Action Plan. Cornerstones is a program that our chapters choose to participate in. Those who do make this decision discover a greater connection to our core values of Virtue, Knowledge, and Truth. In more practical terms, those chapters earn better grades, participate in more campus activities, provide a greater benefit to their communities, and position their members better when entering the job market. Members are rewarded for their progress with recognition, Acacia keepsakes, and Acacia Fraternity Foundation scholarships.

Cornerstones provides a unique online experience for our members to track their progress through the program while getting feedback and advice from alumni mentors.
